Dating to circa 1910, this breathtaking opal festoon necklace features lively crystal opals with fabulous play of colour, strung together with intricate baroque pearl links that wonderfully offset the opals and gold chain.
The sweet baroque pearls in this necklace are strung onto intricately handcrafted chain links that test as approx 12-carat gold, with the remaining chain testing as 9-carat gold.
During this period, pearls were thought of as being more valuable than diamonds and therefore featured heavily in Edwardian jewellery and fashion.
This stunning necklace wears well on its own or with longer layers to create a fabulous striking neckmess.
Due to the age of this piece, it is not recommended for chains and pendants to be worn on top of the opals, so your surrounding layers should be worn longer or shorter than this beautiful piece to ensure she remains in fabulous condition.
