This beautiful Victorian-era bloodstone shield is paired with a handmade modern 9-carat yellow gold pendant bail, bearing a full UK hallmark applied by the London Assay office that includes the special commemorative mark in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
This beautiful Victorian shield would likely have been part of a locket or fob previously. The front has a smooth finish; in contrast, the back of the stone is more matt in texture where it would have been secured to the antique piece.
Bloodstone is known to symbolise courage, which is so fitting for the shield shape of this fabulous piece. The colour is incredible; an opaque green jasper that looks almost blue/black in darker light, with red inclusions of hematite that give the stone its name, and with blueish-white flecked inclusions running through it, this really is a magical piece.
