A beautifully symbolic Victorian sweetheart pendant, rich in sentiment and intricate detail.
Two entwined hearts sit side by side, a classic motif of love and unity, one centred with a wonderfully spready rose-cut diamond, the other glowing with a soft cabochon opal displaying delicate flashes of colour. Both hearts are framed by a halo of antique rose-cut diamonds, giving that gentle, romantic sparkle unique to the era.
Above, a beautifully unusual snake-style bow crowns the piece, formed as two entwined serpents meeting at the centre, their bodies traced in rose-cut diamonds. In Victorian symbolism, the snake represents eternal love and loyalty, adding an extra layer of meaning to this already deeply romantic design.
The stones are set in silver, as typical of the period, to enhance the brightness of the diamonds, with a
gold backing testing as just under 14ct gold. The pendant is finished with a fine 9ct gold chain leading to the bail, allowing it to sit beautifully when worn.
A truly special antique piece, full of character and sentiment — the kind of jewel that feels like it has lived a love story of its own.
