An absolutely exquisite antique Victorian diamond wings pendant, dating to c.1880-1890, featuring a wonderfully delicate, sweeping winged design adorned with sparkling old-cut and rose-cut diamonds.
Originally a late Victorian brooch, this beautiful little jewel has been lovingly repurposed into a pendant with the addition of a substantial 18ct gold bail, ready to take flight once again as part of your favourite antique chain layers!
The striking, symmetrical design features two elegantly upswept wings, decorated with graceful scrolling details and a wonderful arrangement of old-cut and rose-cut diamonds. At the centre sits a gorgeous old-cut diamond, estimated at approximately 0.13-0.14 carats, flanked by two delicate rose-cut diamonds on either side. A further old-cut diamond adorns each wing, followed by two additional rose cuts at each tip, creating a beautifully balanced design full of Victorian charm and sparkle.
The diamonds are set into silver, which has developed a gorgeous natural patina over the past 130 years, beautifully contrasting with the warmth of the 9ct gold reverse. This traditional combination of silver and gold is characteristic of fine Victorian diamond jewellery and adds to the wonderful antique charm of this special piece.
Despite her delicate appearance, the pendant has a fabulous 35.5mm wingspan, giving her plenty of presence without feeling heavy. The newly added chunky 18ct gold bail is wonderfully generous, making her ideal for styling on everything from finer antique chains to more substantial gold links.
A beautifully preserved and wonderfully wearable piece of Victorian history, full of old-world romance, character and sparkle!
